The Fort Gordon Exchange Gets Spooktacular

Like at other Exchanges around the world, the Fort Gordon Exchange had a huge turnout of customers for its Halloween spooktacular.

Halloween came early at the Fort Gordon Exchange as the entire team went all out to serve local military families with a “spooktacular” trick or treat event on Saturday, Oct. 27, that also offered customers a chance to get an early start on holiday shopping.

While more than 200 children enjoyed trick or treating throughout the main store, mall and food court, military shoppers took advantage of great deals with main store sales, reaching $162,000 (a 37 percent increase over last year) and 13 approved MILITARY STAR applications.

“Pulling off an event like this requires a great deal of preparation from a lot of people,” said General Manager Nicholas Nguyen. “All of the arrangements and hard work are worth it when you see parents and their children having fun together.”

Role of social media

According to Nguyen, effective use of social media was a significant factor in making the day a huge success. Fort Gordon Exchange’s Facebook event invitation reached more than 10,000 Facebook users and generated more than 450 responses prior to the event. The result was a turnout that far exceeded that of past Fort Gordon Halloween festivities.

“We made sure that we posted the Facebook event invitation well in advance of the actual date,” Nguyen said. “We also utilized Facebook Live video streaming to capture some of the excitement as it was happening.”

“Keep it fun. If you are enjoying yourself, others will too.”

Nguyen credits his managers and associates with putting in the time to plan out the details and coordinate the efforts of people who don’t always work side-by-side.

“This was a total team effort,” Nguyen said. “We had a great opportunity to connect with and serve our customers. It was a good day because everyone was focused on going the extra mile.”

Nguyen shared one final thought about his team’s big day.

“Keep it fun. If you are enjoying yourself, others will too.”
