Fort Hood Exchange Hosts Health Expo to Encourage Readiness and Resiliency

Wanting to live a healthier lifestyle is one thing. Knowing where to start is another.

That’s the issue the Fort Hood Exchange’s Services & Vending team wanted to tackle when they hosted the first Health Expo at the Clear Creek Main Exchange on March 20.

Abigail Smith, services operations assistant, coordinated to have representatives from about 10 on-installation services available to chat with shoppers about health and wellness opportunities.

Health, wellness in one place

Encouraging healthy choices at Fort Hood is an important initiative for Fort Hood Exchange General Manager Daniel Wise.

“Col. [Henry] Perry, the garrison commander, wants more emphasis on healthy choices, so the Exchange team wanted shoppers to be able to see all these health and wellness opportunities in one place,” Wise said. “Soldiers and their families might not know that they can grab durable medical equipment, try a cryotherapy session and have a dental check-up in the same place they can shop for their fitness gear and eat a healthy lunch.”

Send the BE FIT message

BE FIT Ambassador Roy Montez staffed the Exchange’s table to let Soldiers and their families know about BE FIT apparel and fitness gear offerings in the main store, better-for-you options at the food court and Expresses, and wellness services right inside the Exchange mall.

Such services include GNC, the optometry clinic, Coast Dental, US Cryotherapy, 5 Star Nutrition and the durable medical equipment shop—all of which are part of the Exchange family.

MWR and Fort Hood Family Housing also had tables at the expo.

“We’re trying to send the message that the BE FIT lifestyle is easier than people might think,” Montez said. “Young or old, military or family member, the Exchange has a variety of products, restaurants and services that can help achieve the goal of holistic wellness.”
