Keeping a consistent routine has helped out tremendously to prep my body for the long 6 plus mileage that&#8217;s occurring. Rolling into my third week of training, I&#8217;m excited to see the progress that&#8217;s being made by analyzing and correcting items such as food intake, caloric intake, form, pace and running splits.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1>If you&#8217;re looking for ways to beat those tough days, here are motivational tips via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.polar.com\/blog\/9-ways-professional-athletes-find-workout-motivation\/\">Po<strong>lar<\/strong><\/a>.<\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s too hot. It\u2019s too cold. It\u2019s too dark. It\u2019s too early. It\u2019s too late. You\u2019re tired. Your kids kept you up all night. You\u2019re stressed about work. Your mother-in-law wants you to take her grocery shopping.<\/p>\n<p>If you try hard enough, you can find a million reasons to skip your workout. Some may be valid\u00a0\u2013 others less so. (Your mom-in-law can probably wait, or master the art of Fresh Direct.) But if your excuse is that you\u2019re simply lacking motivation, that\u2019s fair\u00a0and\u00a0it\u2019s preventable. Turns out, even the pros don\u2019t always want to lace up and get sweaty.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s how six of Polar\u2019s professional athletes find workout motivation, even on those days when getting out the door feels like the hardest thing to do.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>1. REMIND YOURSELF HOW YOU\u2019LL FEEL AFTERWARDS<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cI use history as my guide. If I\u2019m not feeling up for a run or workout, I remember how I\u2019ve felt\u00a0<em>after<\/em>\u00a0nearly every other run in my life: happy I did it, and almost always better than before I started.\u201d \u2013 Will Leer<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>2. KEEP YOUR GOAL IN MIND<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cEven on the nice days, sometimes getting out the door can be hard. On those cold, rainy days, it can feel nearly impossible. So the first thing I like to do is remind myself of my goal race. I know the pang of guilt that will inevitably accompany that skipped run. Eventually you realize that the real hardship is the regret of not trying\u00a0\u2013 not necessarily that uncomfortable hour I was out running. When that race finally rolls around, you\u2019ll have more confidence in your fitness and your toughness.\u201d\u00a0\u2013 Noah Droddy<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>3. TRAIN WITH YOUR BUDDIES<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cThe best motivation is having training partners. If you plan to meet someone, you can\u2019t bail on them, and it gets you out the door. It\u2019s also more fun, and you have someone to talk with the whole time.\u201d\u00a0\u2013 Gwen Jorgensen<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>4. DISTRACT YOURSELF<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve recently started doing some of my easy runs listening to music or podcasts. Narrative podcasts in particular allow me to concentrate on something besides running. Inevitably, as I become involved in the story I\u2019m hearing, my thoughts drift away from the task at hand. I believe that most days, running requires focus. But every now and then, you need to turn your brain off.\u201d\u00a0\u2013 Noah Droddy<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>5. JUST TAKE THE FIRST STEP<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cI know that once I get rolling, I can conquer. But the hardest part is that first stroke or step. So don\u2019t think about it so much. Just take that first step.\u201d\u00a0\u2013 Andrew Starykowicz<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>6. KEEP A LOG<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cKeep a written log of your running. If you fill out the scheduled run days, you\u2019ll look back and be glad you did it. You\u2019ll gain confidence from that. If you skip a day, that section of your log will remain empty, and will serve as a reminder that you didn\u2019t quite do what you were supposed to. FIND THE THING THAT WORKS FOR YOU<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cI make a new playlist on my iPod, or I call a friend to meet for a run when I don\u2019t want to get out the door. It works every time!\u201d\u00a0\u2013 Molly Huddle<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>8. TRICK YOURSELF A LITTLE<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cGive yourself an out. Some days, when my scheduled 8-mile run seems too daunting, I tell myself, \u2018If I get out the door, I only have to do four miles.\u2019 More often than not, by the time I get that far, I\u2019m starting to enjoy the run, and it doesn\u2019t seem like the chore it once was, so I\u2019m able to finish the planned distance. It\u2019s a psychological trick I lean on often. If you get halfway through and decide to take the out and cut the run short, at least you got out and did something.\u201d\u00a0\u2013 Noah Droddy<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>9. SUCK IT UP<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cEveryone wants to know super secret motivational tricks and tips. I don\u2019t feel like I have any that people haven\u2019t already heard \u2013 so here\u2019s what I think. Just suck it up and get it done. There are days when it seems impossible to get out the door, but I know that if I want to be successful, there\u2019s only one way to achieve that success, and it\u2019s not easy or pretty and it sometimes absolutely sucks. But you know what doesn\u2019t suck?
