Because of this, it isn\u2019t surprising to find our pants fitting a bit tighter as the holidays progress.<\/p>\n<p>While it\u2019s understandably easy to pack on pounds, that doesn\u2019t mean holiday weight gain is inevitable. Here are some strategies to help you avoid weight gain, while still being able to indulge in your holiday favorites:<\/p>\n<div class=\"lazy-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"js-lazy-image alignnone size-full wp-image-26196 initial loaded\" src=\"https:\/\/1y2u3hx8yml32svgcf0087imj-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2016\/05\/reason-1.jpg\" alt width=\"1200\" height=\"600\" data-src=\"https:\/\/1y2u3hx8yml32svgcf0087imj-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2016\/05\/reason-1.jpg\" data-was-processed=\"true\"><\/div>\n<p>You wouldn\u2019t go to a holiday party without giving thought to what you\u2019ll wear, so why would you go to a party without giving thought to what you\u2019ll eat? Have a few guidelines in place for how you plan to handle food offerings before showing up. \u201cSet a limit on the amount of appetizers you consume since they can be loaded in calories and not very filling,\u201d says New York City-based dietitian<a class=\"new-tab-added\" href=\"https:\/\/nutritionalanatalie.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&nbsp;Natalie Rizzo, RD<\/a>, adding the caveat to \u201conly indulge on the ones that are really special.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mealtime is no different. If you tell yourself a food is off limit, it will just make you crave it more. \u201cSave room for dessert. It may seem counterintuitive, but if you know you want to save room for some dessert, you are less likely to eat mindlessly,\u201d says Rizzo. You\u2019ll also be surprised how reducing the amount of sugar called for in the original recipe has almost no impact on the resulting flavor.
