Alongside business titans at Amazon, CVS and Walmart, Greenwich resident Tom Shull was named to a 2018 list of retail “leaders to watch.”
His company isn’t the sort of household name as many of the others ranked, but it’s well-known among U.S. military members. Shull, a veteran and Harvard MBA, is the director and CEO of the Army and Air Force Exchange Service, an $8.3 billion retailer commonly referred to as “the BX” by service members. Its parent organization is the U.S. Department of Defense.
The Exchange encompasses 3,500 brick-and-mortar stores, gas stations, restaurants and theaters on military bases around the world. With Shull at the helm, the Exchange has built a thriving website and vastly expanded its customer base.
