DALLAS – Service members now have more mobile data connection options overseas with the launch of Europe and Middle East regional data plans for Sapphire International Mobile Hotspot, available exclusively through the Army & Air Force Exchange Service.
Sapphire enables smartphones, tablets, laptops to connect instantly to the internet in more than 100 countries worldwide. The plans, which can be used on deployment, downrange, TDY or international vacations, save users money compared to using a phone as a hotspot, which can incur roaming charges. They also eliminate the need to buy a new hotspot, SIM card or data plan in each country or location.
“The new regional plans were developed specifically for those traveling through two or more countries, as happens during training assignments to Poland or other eastern European locations,” said Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Luis Reyes, the Exchange’s senior enlisted advisor. “These new plans span more than 28 European and Middle Eastern countries, and service members are still able to buy country-specific plans if that’s what they need.”
Available at ShopMyExchange.com and at most Exchange-contracted DHI telecom shops downrange, Sapphire comes with 500 megabytes of free data, allowing users to go online immediately. It features a virtual SIM card that instantly identifies and connects to the strongest nearby 4G LTE cellular signal.
Up to five mobile devices can be connected at a time. Data can be recharged through the Sapphire app or the Exchange TopUp service, where all transactions are in English and dollars.
