Army & Air Force Exchange Service Honored For Work with Federal Workforce Recruitment Program
DALLAS—The Army & Air Force Exchange Service was recognized for its excellence with the federal Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP) during the Department of Defense Office of Diversity Management and Equal Opportunity awards ceremony July 26 at the Pentagon.
The Exchange was named Best Department of Defense WRP Component. Exchange Equal Employment Opportunity, Diversity & Inclusion (EEODI) and Affirmative Employment Specialist Bee Persaud was recognized as Outstanding WRP Coordinator.
The Workforce Recruitment Program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy and the Department of Defense, connects federal employers with college students and recent graduates with disabilities to for internships and full-time employment.
“The Army & Air Force Exchange Service is at the forefront of attracting talent and creating opportunities for people with disabilities,” said Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Luis Reyes, the Exchange’s senior enlisted advisor. “The Exchange is Family Serving Family. We are excited about to the team’s efforts to build a diverse workforce to serve Soldiers, Airmen and military families.”
The Exchange has been involved in the Workforce Recruitment Program since 2002. During the last year, the Exchange’s diversity team reached out to multiple college campuses around the Dallas-Fort Worth area to recruit 16 WRP interns for 2018. Two of these interns have been hired permanently.
Persaud and her colleagues reviewed staffing and identified opportunities for interns. They also utilized the ABLE (Disabilities Resource Group) program to provide educational tools and reasonable accommodation information to Exchange managers.
