Feeling Like Home: Exchange Focuses Quality-of-Life Improvements at Fort Irwin

Fort Irwin ExchangeFORT IRWIN – The Army & Air Force Exchange Service is all in to support the Army’s initiative to improve quality of life for Soldiers and families at Fort Irwin.

The installation has been identified as one of “the Big Four” posts that are remote, austere or facing quality-of-life challenges. U.S. Army Installation Management Command is the lead agent for implementing the myriad aspects of the initiative, and the Exchange and IMCOM are working together to make Fort Irwin a better place to work and live.

The Fort Irwin Exchange has recently expanded services and upgraded facilities, with the re-opening of the Reel Time Theater snack bar and the opening of Soleil Nails and Spa.

Planned projects include:

  • Renovation of the shopping center with new flooring, fixtures and layout.
  • Starbucks upgrade with the addition of a drive-thru.
  • Groundbreaking for a 24-hour Express and Class Six.
  • Expansion of the Burger King drive-thru.

“We’re exploring many options to make Fort Irwin an even better place to work, live and play,” said Ladda Thomas, Fort Irwin Exchange general manager. “There are going to be a lot of great changes here over the next few years.”
