FORT HOOD \u2013 <\/strong>When the Fort Hood Exchange called up Staff Sgt. Richard Ziedenburg to let him know he\u2019d won a 2017 Volkswagen Beetle Dune, he was literally in disbelief.<\/p>\n

\u201cI said, \u2018Get out of here, I didn\u2019t win any car,\u2019\u201d said Ziedenburg. \u201cI\u2019d entered two months ago, so I\u2019d completely forgotten about it. I contacted the Exchange\u2019s Facebook page, and they got back to me 30 minutes later and said \u2018Yeah, you\u2019re the winner.\u2019 After a couple of days it finally kicked in that I\u2019d actually won.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ziedenburg was presented with the vehicle<\/a>, which is valued at $29,395, at the Fort Hood Exchange on Oct. 10, along with his wife, Miriam, and children, Leah, 1, and Jasmine, 6. He was randomly selected from more than 20,000 entrants to win the Exchange\u2019s Perfetti Van Melle Sweepstakes.<\/p>\n

The Exchange also threw in a few of surprises bonuses for the Ziedenburgs: two Dynacraft bicycles and two Graco car seats, plus a year\u2019s supply of Mentos and Airheads candies.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve never had a convertible,\u201d Ziedenburg said. \u201cI think my wife will enjoy it the most, but the family will definitely have fun with it. It\u2019s something different. It\u2019s a very, very unique car to win.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ziedenburg, who is currently stationed at Fort Hood, has been in the Army for nine years and has deployed to Afghanistan and Kuwait.<\/p>\n

\u201cStaff Sgt. Ziedenburg exemplifies the heroism the Exchange is privileged to support by serving the greatest customers in the world,\u201d said Ricky Hurst, Exchange general manager. \u201cWe couldn\u2019t be happier to show our gratitude for his service and sacrifice by presenting him with this prize.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ziedenburg said he considers the sweepstakes a \u201cblessing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think people realize the number of prizes the Exchange gives out, and I don\u2019t think enough people enter,\u201d he said. \u201cThey\u2019ve given away a motorcycle pretty much every month this year, and I think that\u2019s really cool. Not a lot of places give away that much for free.\u201d<\/p>\n
