\"\"FORT RUCKER \u2013 <\/strong>Eight-year-old Amy Fowler summed up her feelings in one word: \u201cExcited!\u201d<\/p>\n

The Fort Rucker Elementary School second-grader is one of three winners worldwide<\/a> in the Army & Air Force Exchange Service\u2019s You Made the Grade sweepstakes, which honors military children for their academic performances.<\/p>\n

Amy was presented with her winnings<\/a> \u2013 a $500 Exchange gift card \u2013 by Garrison Commander Col. Brian Walsh, Command Sgt. Maj. Jasper Johnson, Exchange General Manager Ralph Kleemann and store manager Beate Bateman at the Fort Rucker Exchange on July 31. Amy also received a commander\u2019s coin from Col. Walsh.<\/p>\n

Amy is the daughter of Warrant Officer Paul Fowler and wife Angela. Fowler has served in the Army for 12 years and recently arrived at Fort Rucker.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re shocked and really happy,\u201d Fowler said. \u201cIt nice for Amy to get recognized for excelling in school.\u201d<\/p>\n

The family recalls entering the sweepstakes but didn\u2019t give it much thought afterward. In the midst of a PCS move to Fort Rucker, they soon forgot about the sweepstakes until receiving the call about Amy\u2019s win.<\/p>\n

The prize should make back-to-school shopping for the Fowler family easier. When asked how she planned to spend her winnings, Amy wanted to use it to buy \u201cschool stuff\u201d for the upcoming year.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Exchange is privileged to be a part of the lives of our Soldiers and their families,\u201d Kleemann said. \u201cTo be able to encourage and reward military kids like Amy for all their hard work in school is real honor for us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Through the Exchange\u2019s You Made the Grade program, first- through 12th-graders with a B average or higher are eligible to enter the sweepstakes for a chance at a $2,000, $1,500 or $500 Exchange gift card.<\/p>\n
