OXON HILL, Md. <\/strong>\u2014 In honor of programs to increase efficiency and decrease costs, the Army & Air Force Exchange Service received the National Defense Transportation Association\u2019s 2018 Innovative Logistics Service Award<\/a>, recognizing the Department of Defense\u2019s oldest retailer for outstanding accomplishments in transportation and logistics.<\/p>\n The award recognizes a commercial industry or government agency logistics provider for innovative, mission-related services that have significantly reduced the military forces\u2019 non-operational burden and allowed them to concentrate greater efforts on their core competencies.<\/p>\n Col. Douglas Vallejo, deputy director, Logistics; and Morgan Meeks, vice president, Transportation Operations accepted the award on behalf of the Exchange<\/a> on Oct. 24 at the NDTA-USTRANSCOM fall meeting near Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Exchange is truly honored to receive this recognition from NDTA,\u201d said Vallejo. \u201cThe Exchange works tirelessly to increase efficiencies while supporting our Nation\u2019s heroes and generating funding for military Quality-of-Life programs.\u201d<\/p>\n The Exchange was honored based on three significant successes from 2017:<\/p>\n \u201cThe Exchange remains committed to its motto of \u2018We Go Were You Go\u2019 and to the support of our Soldiers and Airmen around the world,\u201d Vallejo said. \u201cWe are continually improving efficiencies within the supply chain that provides direct dividend support to military Quality-of-Life programs.\u201d<\/p>\n 100 percent of Exchange earnings support the military, including Quality-of-Life programs that are crucial for readiness and resiliency. In 2017, the Exchange contributed $219 million to Army Child Development Centers and Fitness Centers, Air Force Outdoor Recreation activities and other programs to make life better for those who serve.<\/p>\n NDTA is a nonpolitical, nonprofit educational organization in logistics, transportation and passenger travel services.
