FORT IRWIN <\/strong>\u2013 It was lights, camera, action on the silver screen as the Army & Air Force Exchange Service raised the curtain on its newly renovated Reel Time Theater at Fort Irwin<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cRaya and the Last Dragon\u201d was the first official movie shown in the two-theater auditorium\u2014one theater seats 220 and the other 120\u2014after the old theater closed a year ago.<\/p>\n

Reel Time boasts refurbished screens and new seating, projectors, speakers, flooring and restrooms.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe renovated Reel Time Theater reinforces the Exchange\u2019s commitment to the Fort Irwin community,\u201d said Holly Elliott, general manager of the Fort Irwin PX. \u201cWith a fresh slate of first-run movies, as well as some older classics, Soldiers and their families can enjoy top-notch entertainment in a comfortable setting.\u201d<\/p>\n

Currently, showtimes are 6 p.m. Friday, 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis project enhances the quality of life on Fort Irwin, providing exceptional facilities that really make working and living on Fort Irwin an installation of choice,\u201d Garrison Commander Col. Jeanette Martin said. \u201cThe movie theater is a great example of placing our Soldiers and families first, and it gives them a place to spend time with their families and decompress.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fort Irwin is part of a pilot program to improve the Quality of Life for Soldiers and their families at austere locations. The program, which also includes Forts Polk, Hood and Wainwright, plans upgrades to main stores and Expresses, on-post dining and Wi-Fi infrastructure while extending job opportunities to military spouses.<\/p>\n

Other Exchange services on the way to Fort Irwin include a Soleil Nails & Spa coming in April, along with upgrades to Starbucks and Subway.<\/p>\n
