JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND \u2013 <\/span><\/b>Holiday spirit filled the air <\/b>at Joint Base San Antonio- Lackland\u2019s Exchange <\/b>as 2,000 Air Force Basic Military Training recruits were treated to a <\/span>special shopping event<\/a> Dec. 6.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Exchange opened extra early at 6 a.m., allowing busloads of <\/span>recruits<\/span><\/a>, who will\"pic<\/a> spend their holidays in basic training, to shop for gifts for their family and friends without interrupting their busy training schedule. A DJ, dance and trivia contests as well as giveaways kept the mood merry and bright. Recruits picked up free items from YourSoles Insoles, M&M Mars, Coca-Cola, Jack Black Cosmetics, Hershey\u2019s and other vendors.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

After shopping, recruits rode buses back to JBSA\u2019s Basic Military Training reception center, where volunteers helped wrap their gifts. Recruits were then taken to the Exchange\u2019s The UPS Store to have gifts shipped back home.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBasic training is stressful, and this event has been a nice experience,\u201d\u00a0said Dominick Newland from Hockamo, Ind.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Lackland Exchange Store Manager John Burk called the event a success.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThese young men and women are missing the holidays with their families\u2014often for the first time in their lives,\u201d Burk said. \u201cDoing something special for them helps us embrace the true spirit of the holidays.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
