Spangdahlem Airman Drives Off In New Jeep Thanks to Exchange Sweepstakes

SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE –  For Senior Airman Patrick Devlin, a joke among friends has paid off in a big way.

Devlin, who serves with the 52nd Fighter Wing at Spangdahelm Air Base, took the keys to a new 2018 Jeep Compass Sport as a grand-prize winner in the Exchange Subway Sweepstakes. He entered the sweepstakes to win the Jeep, valued at more than $24,000, last year after joking with his friends that he’d ultimately be driving home a winner.

Devlin picked up the keys to his new ride during a presentation at the Spangdahelm Exchange on July 24.

“There’s nothing like giving to those who serve our country,” said Spangdahelm Exchange General Manager Robin Boylan. “It’s a privilege to take care of Airmen like Patrick who sacrifice every day.”

Devlin, who has served in the Air Force for nearly three years, said that he and his friends regularly eat at Subway, and he joked with them when he entered the sweepstakes last year, saying, “I’m going to win this Jeep.”

“I didn’t believe it at first. I was not sure it was real,” Devlin said. “I’ve never won anything before. I’ve never heard of anyone that I knew winning something this big.”

Devlin, from Niceville, Fla., said that when he told his father and two brothers back home, they were shocked as well.

“I’ll share a picture with them,” he said. “They’ll still be surprised.”
