Army & Air Force Exchange Service Earns NDTA Innovative Logistics Service Award

OXON HILL, Md. — In honor of programs to increase efficiency and decrease costs, the Army & Air Force Exchange Service received the National Defense Transportation Association’s 2018 Innovative Logistics Service Award, recognizing the Department of Defense’s oldest retailer for outstanding accomplishments in transportation and logistics.

The award recognizes a commercial industry or government agency logistics provider for innovative, mission-related services that have significantly reduced the military forces’ non-operational burden and allowed them to concentrate greater efforts on their core competencies.

Col. Douglas Vallejo, deputy director, Logistics; and Morgan Meeks, vice president, Transportation Operations accepted the award on behalf of the Exchange on Oct. 24 at the NDTA-USTRANSCOM fall meeting near Washington, D.C.

“The Exchange is truly honored to receive this recognition from NDTA,” said Vallejo. “The Exchange works tirelessly to increase efficiencies while supporting our Nation’s heroes and generating funding for military Quality-of-Life programs.”

The Exchange was honored based on three significant successes from 2017:

  • Welcoming home 15 million eligible Veterans with tax-free shopping and military-exclusive pricing online for life at ShopMyExchange.com.
  • Securing additional warehouse space on the Sharpe Army Depot to account for increased e-Commerce demand.
  • Supporting relief and recovery after hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria.

“The Exchange remains committed to its motto of ‘We Go Were You Go’ and to the support of our Soldiers and Airmen around the world,” Vallejo said. “We are continually improving efficiencies within the supply chain that provides direct dividend support to military Quality-of-Life programs.”

100 percent of Exchange earnings support the military, including Quality-of-Life programs that are crucial for readiness and resiliency. In 2017, the Exchange contributed $219 million to Army Child Development Centers and Fitness Centers, Air Force Outdoor Recreation activities and other programs to make life better for those who serve.
