FORT WORTH, Texas – For the second straight year, the Army & Air Force Exchange Service is leveraging the national appeal of the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl and Army West Point Athletics to remind Veterans of their DoD-approved military exchange shopping benefit—tax-free shopping with military-exclusive pricing through ShopMyExchange.com.
“It’s a privilege to be part of the Armed Forces Bowl—the Bowl for the Brave—for the second straight year,” said Exchange Director/CEO Tom Shull. “It is critical that Veterans know about their tax-free online benefit, which honors their service and sacrifice while generating needed dividends for critical military Quality-of-Life programs including Army Child Development Centers and Fitness Centers, Air Force Outdoor Recreation programs and more.”
Three 30-second commercials, which aired on ESPN during the game, thanked all honorably discharged Veterans for their service and reminded them they can now shop at ShopMyExchange.com.
At the game, the Exchange shared its relevancy, mission and news about the Veterans online shopping benefit with fans, which featured the Army Black Knights and University of Houston Cougars. Before kickoff, fans picked up Exchange giveaways and toured a Mobile Field Exchange, a 53-foot Exchange on wheels that deploys to remote, austere locations to support troops in combat and natural disasters as well as military exercises.
As part of the excitement, the Exchange awarded bowl game prize packages to nine military shoppers, who won a sweepstakes featured on social media. Each prize included two Champion Club game tickets, a parking pass, two sideline passes and two ESPN VIP passes. Winners came from as far as Fort Riley to cheer for the Black Knights.
Veterans and authorized shoppers are responding to the Exchange’s outreach efforts. About 9,000 new shopping accounts were created Dec. 8—the day of the Army-Navy Game, where the Exchange made a big push to reach Veterans through a TV ad and in-stadium outreach.
More than 75,000 Veterans have shopped at ShopMyExchange.com, saving more than $4 million in sales tax. Home electronics, computers, footwear and appliances are among the top sellers.
Every purchase made at the Exchange, whether in-store or online, makes life better for service members and their families as 100 percent of earnings support military Quality-of-Life programs.
Veterans can verify their eligibility to shop the Exchange at ShopMyExchange.com/veterans.
