Arizona Air National Guard Officer Heads to the World Long Drive Championship

DALLAS — An officer with the Arizona National Guard’s 161st Air Refueling Wing is teeing off with golf’s best in the Volvik World Long Drive Championship thanks to his win at the Exchange Celebrating Service: Fort Jackson qualifier this spring.

Maj. Mikael Dubois is one of 96 long-drive hitters in the men’s open division, which starts Aug. 29 in Thackerville, Okla. He earned a place in the 44th annual competition after his 326-yard drive was the farthest during a special military qualifier at Fort Jackson, sponsored by Installation Management Command Morale Recreation and Welfare and the Army & Air Force Exchange Service as well as its vendor partners. Army Installation Management Command staged 12 military qualifiers and the championship at the Fort Jackson eventMilitary Division winner, Mikael Dubois, at the Exchange Celebrating Service: Fort Jackson qualifier this spring.

“The Exchange proudly supports Mikael Dubois as he competes in the championship,” said Col. Collin Fortier, Exchange military outreach liaison. “Maj. Dubois is a great example of the Exchange’s commitment to promoting military readiness and resiliency through physical activity. He is a credit to the Air Force and the National Guard.”

If Dubois advances in the bracket, he could compete on live TV. An open round of 16 will air on the Golf Channel from 7:30 to 11 p.m. Eastern Sept. 3. The quarterfinals, semifinals and finals air from 7:30 to 11 p.m. Sept. 4.
