DALLAS – More than 150 military families got a special holiday surprise last week as their Exchange layaways were paid off.
The nonprofit organization Pay Away the Layaway coordinated with the Army & Air Force Exchange Service to pay off a total of more than $26,000 in layaways at 10 Exchange locations. Layaways that were paid off included kids’ items such as toys and clothing.
“It was a treat to see the faces of the kids and the parents when they were surprised with their paid off layaway items,” said Fort Jackson Exchange General Manager Thomas Kuttamperoor. “The Exchange is grateful to take part in making sure Fort Jackson military brats have a wonderful holiday season.”
Pay Away the Layaway has partnered with the Exchange for the past three years to give back to the military community.
“It has been an honor to partner with Pay Away the Layaway over the past few years,” said Jetdean Martin, Exchange Store Communication and Support Manager. “Spreading the holiday spirit is their specialty and we appreciate the opportunity to help them continue their selfless work.”
Pay Away the Layaway is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that raises money online to pay off layaway balances. The mission of the organization is to inspire hope and spread kindness. This is the third year the Army & Air Force Exchange services has partnered with the group to pay off layaways worldwide. Pay Away the Layaway welcomes donations year-round through their website, www.payawaythelayaway.org.
