DALLAS – For the past five years, all honorably discharged Veterans have been authorized to shop tax-free with the Army & Air Force Exchange Service at ShopMyExchange.com—and they’ve racked up some serious savings.
More than 608,000 Veterans have used their lifelong online shopping benefit since it launched on Veterans Day 2017, placing nearly 1.5 million orders and saving nearly $24 million in sales tax. The benefit was the first expansion of military exchange privileges since 1990 at the time of its launch.
“Over the past five years, the Exchange has honored the service of all who raised their right hand, took the oath and served with distinction,” said Exchange Director/CEO Tom Shull, a Vietnam-era Army Veteran who worked to secure the change in Department of Defense policy to extend a lifelong online military exchange shopping benefit to all honorably discharged Veterans. “These heroes continue to serve when they use their Exchange benefit, generating needed support for critical military Quality-of-Life programs.”
It matters where you shop—100% of Exchange earnings support military communities. In the last 10 years, the Exchange benefit has provided $3.5 billion in earnings for Quality-of-Life support such as outfitting 7127,000 Warfighters at cost annually, providing school meal support for Department of Defense Education Activity facilities overseas and delivering needed services to locations impacted by natural disasters.
