SHAW AIR FORCE BASE – Those in the Shaw Air Force Base community looking to eat healthier this new year have a new option at the Exchange food court.
20th Fighter Wing Commander Col. Lawrence Sullivan, 20th Fighter Wing Command Chief Master Sgt. Steve Cenov, 20th Mission Support Group Commander Col. Jason Campbell and 20th Mission Support Group Chief Master Sgt. Scott Cooley joined Shaw Exchange General Manager Thomas Kuttamperoor in cutting the ribbon at Bun-D, which focuses on natural, unprocessed ingredients in its menu.
“The Exchange is responding to the needs of the Shaw community with more dining options and healthier choices,” Kuttamperoor said. “We’re committed to supporting our Airmen and families’ readiness and resiliency.”
The Shaw AFB Exchange Bun-D is just the third Bun-D in the United States. The other two are at the U.S. Air Force Academy Exchange and the Fort Carson Exchange. Bun-D is a Germany-based restaurant that offers salads, wraps, rice bowls and smoothies. There are 14 Bun-D locations at Exchanges overseas, including a location downrange in United Arab Emirates— with three more locations opening this year in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Qatar—where deployed troops can enjoy fresh and healthy meals at the tip of the spear.
Shopping the Shaw AFB Exchange stores and dining at Exchange restaurants benefit Airmen and military families, as 100% of Exchange earnings support the community. In 2019, the Exchange contributed more than $483,000 to Quality-of-Life programs at Shaw AFB.
The Shaw AFB Exchange Bun-D is located in the main Exchange food court at 370 Rhodes Avenue., Bldg. 1403 and is open Tuesday through Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
